Electro-Galvanized Steel is a zinc coated metal that is produced through an electrochemical process. The process involves steel being immersed in a cold zinc bath. An electrical current is run through the bath. This process is also called electroplating.

Conversion coatings are applied to the steel to enhance the corrosion resistance. The coating builds up an additional layer of zinc as well as chromium hydroxides. This results in the blue tinted finish commonly associated with the steel.

Benefits of electro-galvanized include higher corrosion resistance, higher performance, a readily paintable surface, and formability (more specifics below).
